Our Program & Course Description:

Are you looking for a rewarding career working with young children? This entry-level course will equip you with the foundation skills and knowledge you need to become a qualified assistant within this sector. In addition, you will learn about effective interaction and communication with children, appropriate care for babies, toddlers and children, first aid, safety and working legally and ethically.
During the course you will participate in a minimum of 160 hours of placement with Meli kindergartens, and with approved child care providers.
You’ll graduate with the skills and knowledge to succeed and work appropriately in the booming early childhood sector.

Eligibility:

  • Not enrolled in secondary school.
  • 17 years and above.
  • Commitment to completing 10-month course. 4 days per week including 2 days per week of on-the-job unpaid practical placement with approved kindergarten and childcare provider.
  • Required to pass a Working With Children Check at commencement of the course.
  • Literacy, numeracy & communication skills – must be able to read English and write at a level to complete classwork/tests/homework, requires suitable language & communication skills which can be refined during the course (Numeracy & Literacy support offered).
  • Physically fit & well. Ability to work and stand for long periods of time.
  • Uniform & personal hygiene and grooming – will require suitable nonslip closed toe shoes and a generic polo to identify themselves as students when on clinical placement (assistance from NF may be provided as required).
